Neil Armstrong was an aerospace engineer, Navy pilot, test pilot, university professor and the first man to set foot on the moon. By his own description, he was a nerdy engineer with a pocket protector and white socks.
He died August 25. There hasn’t been a lot about him in the news because the news hounds are all wrapped up with the Republican Convention and a hurricane. Obama’s tribute to this true American hero was a picture of himself looking up at the moon.
Mr. Armstrong was from all accounts a man that did not want the limelight, so the lack of coverage would have been very satisfying to him. But, the world knows and will always remember the words, "That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
Since 1969 there have been a lot of technological advancements. There will be many more. The question is will there be men like Neil Armstrong with the "right stuff."
"Houston, the "Eagle" has landed in the true Tranquility Base."
Rest in peace.
